The first stage is a pilot across 220 Ha to pave the way for certification, impact studies and planning, this will be funded by… and is estimated to last 18 months from October 2022.
The second stage involves planting and growing the bamboo forest and biodiverse food forest, whilst adopting Smart Farming technologies from March 2024.
Carbon credits will start accruing once the pilot is underway at the end of 2022. CO2 sequestration will average 3.67 million tonnes/ year and a total of 110 million tonnes of sequestered CO2 over 30 years (2052)
TERRAGRN is currently seeking funds of $13-$20m though Grants and Catalytic funds and is seeking Catalytic funding of at least $ 10 million for executing the Pilot and Land Survey.
Carbon can be used as collateral for the funding and converted at later date to equity when TERRAGRN can offer equity (expected 2024)
TERRAGRN is in advanced stage of discussion with MDBs, DFIs, and Corporates for catalytic funding
Specifically, Grants will be used for technical assistance expertise and studies to be conducted
A catalogue has been prepared for technical assistance
The studies, blueprints, deliverables, and models can be reused in other projects
Catalytic funds/ concessional loans will be used for executing the pilot (Oct’22 to Dec’23) and for conducting land survey on the available 350,000 Ha to select the 200,000 for agroforestry development.
Land lease, fencing and security for site, soil regeneration, rainwater capture and irrigation solutions, farm tools and equipment, movable infrastructure for storage and use by workforce, power setup etc.
Appoint Land Survey expert in South Africa to conduct soil studies, mineral tests, and hydrological analysis. Capture images and measured outputs to determine parcels of land that can be utilised for the forest development.
Longer-term equity and debt will be required to scale the business as part of a multi-phased investment approach.
